Biarritz has long been a popular resort town on the French Atlantic coast; close to the Spanish border and with plenty of luscious beaches to explore, tourists see it as an ideal holiday destination for those hot summer months.  Famed for being in the perfect location to make the most of the Bay of Biscay's ideal surfing conditions, Biarritz also has a number of sunbathing beaches (such as the ever popular Grand Plage) and cliffs for exploring and walking.  Saint Martin's Church, built in the twelfth century, is also a tourist favourite, along with the Chapelle Imperiale (Hotel du Palais) which was built for the Empress Eugenie.  The region is packed with visitors in the summer months and Biarritz's two casinos bare the brunt of this holiday rush.  To get out of Biarritz and explore the wider region, simply take the A63 Motorway to the south-west - it will take you to the Spanish-French border and into the Spanish resort town of San Sebastian.

Biarritz and the surrounding region are serviced by the Biarritz-Anglet-Bayonne Airport (sometimes referred to as the Parme Airport), which is located two kilometres to the south-east of Biarritz's center.  The airport is quite small though it does receive flights from a number of carriers, including Easy Jet (Bristol, London, Lyon and Paris) and Ryan Air (Birmingham, Dublin, Frankfurt, London and Shannon). Several car hire companies are based at the airport for passengers' convenience, including Sixt, Avis, Europcar, National/Citer and Hertz.
